A turbo system that would be responsive and produce power over a broad range yet be completely capable of producing rwhp. The challenge was to design a system that was well mannered as a daily driver yet contain the high quality components and headroom required to withstand the rigors of competition and track use!
We also knew this would need to be offered as a true, complete bolt-on package to the consumer. After analyzing all this information, we carefully chose the components and ultimately opted for a low mount turbo design. There are a few key notable advantages to this approach for a production turbo kit.
Placing the turbo low in the chassis will yield lower under hood temperatures compared to top mount designs. This keeps exhaust heat away from sensitive electronic components, rubber hoses and plastics found in the engine bay.
Avoiding issues in these areas improves long term day to day reliability which was very important in our approach and ultimately, to our customers. This location also provides superior vehicle balance by locating the turbocharger, manifold, wastegate and downpipe as low and as centered in the chassis as possible.
In an effort to avoid compromise, we felt it was very important to maintain full functionally of the Auxiliary Port Valve, Secondary Shutter Valve, Variable Dynamic Intake Effect and the Oil injection system. This allows the end user to determine what control logic best suits their application and provides more overall flexibility in the system.
This approach eliminates compromises in performance at low RPM, allows maximum power output at high RPM's and also eliminates switching to a premix only vehicle. In other words, we wanted a clean installation that would avoid seriously altering or modifying the chassis. When designing our new turbo system we looked at the Renesis closely to determine how to take advantage of the engines unique exhaust flow characteristics.Vavoo software
Next we took a look at other areas that would promote quicker turbo spool-up and what we came up with was a design that improves spool time, overall turbo response and ultimately engine performance. The intermediate or center housing of the Renesis engine has a divided exhaust port sleeve which allows exhaust from both chambers to exit into one common exhaust runner.There's a fairly long straightaway on the handling course at Mazda's Miyoshi proving ground that encourages a bit of leg stretching, but the sweeping left-hander that leads to it is blind because of hedges that surround much of the track.
Luckily, the corner has broad paved shoulders so we could take a long, wide line, letting the new RX-8 drift comfortably across the track as it barreled onto the straight. Then it was just a matter of burying the throttle and watching the digital speedometer wink upward through the numbers, reaching kilometers per hour about mph before running out of racetrack.

This, then, is the return of the rotary. For a while there we thought green zealotry had killed off the only viable gas-burning alternative to the ubiquitous reciprocating engine.
But a brilliantly straightforward modification to the rotary engine's design has improved fuel economy by 20 percent, according to Seiji Tashima, the engineer in charge of the so-called Renesis engine project, and cleaned up emissions so they meet LEV II and Euro 4 standards.

But never say never. Hey, they brought back the rotary, didn't they? And in this new RX-8, it embodies an unusual concept: the four-seat sports car. Yeah, we know that Nissan once called the Maxima a four-door sports car, but let's get real here.
This RX-8 actually runs and steers and feels like a convincing spiritual successor to the quick-witted but slow-selling RX It's easy to say four-seat sports car, but what does it mean?
In this case, it means feeling light and nimble, turning in like a race car, and resisting roll in corners. A stability-control function is now included for the faint of heart. It means rear-wheel drive, a slick six-speed shifter, and a warning buzz when the roaring rotary hits nine grand. But this time you can take three passengers along for the ride, thanks to a pair of rearward opening "freestyle doors" that allow access to a surprisingly spacious rear compartment.
